BCDC’s Response to Vandalism

by | Oct 12, 2021 | News Update

On Sunday, our booth at the Zelienople Fall Festival was found to have been slashed and vandalized overnight.

If the vandals thought they would stop us, they were wrong. They only made us stronger–all of us! Whoever tried to destroy the Butler County Democratic Committee booth on Saturday night surely intended to quiet our Democratic voice. But the booth was opened on Sunday, rips, slashes, and all. And thanks to our dedicated volunteers, the message was delivered loud and clear: Vote for Democrats at every level of government, no matter what negativity our opponents throw our way. And while those volunteers were cleaning up, the word was spreading.

First in Butler and then quickly, via social media, across the country, we began receiving words of support and even donations to help us rebuild. Thanks to our allies, new and old, a day that began with disappointment and destruction ended with positivity and power. It’s a great feeling to know our fellow Democrats have our back. Special thanks to the committee people who worked through that chaos on Sunday, including Karen Barbati, Catherine Lalonde, and Jennifer Rainey-Graham. And to the super activists from The Order of the Phoenix to our south, who amplified our message and showed enormous support from their blue haven in Allegheny County. We especially appreciate Nathaniel Yap, a leader in that group, for paying a visit to the booth on Sunday.

We are also grateful that the very busy Lt. Gov. John Fetterman, his inspiring wife Gisele Barreto Fetterman, and even their dog Levi shared their outrage, and our story, with their massive social media following. They introduced us to friends from California to Massachusetts and everywhere in between.

Bottom line: this party isn’t going anywhere. We’re feeling better than ever about the work we do, and the power of Democrats everywhere to unify for the greater good. We won’t let you down.
